External Review | Design, Ports, Keyboards, And More

DESIGN:

The design of Acer Chromebook Spin 11 is plastic, with the exception of the Gorilla Glass touch screen.

You can open the lid with a single hand and the hinges of the lid are classy.

While Acer's design feels pretty solid, you don't get the same level of durability offered by the competition.

Dell's Chromebook 5190 a spill-resistant keyboard and is tested to withstand 30-inch drops.

The competition like Lenovo Chromebook c330 has a better design.

WEIGHT:

Acer Chromebook Spin 11 weighs 2.7 pounds, but it feels heavier than that in tablet mode.

The way it digs in your palm feels uncomfortable enough for pain.

KEYBOARD:

We tested the keyboard performance on 10fastfingers.com

Tom, one of our review helper, has a typing speed of 82 words per minute with 95 percent (95%) accuracy.

However, on the Acer Chromebook spin 11, he averaged 87 wpm with an accuracy of 94 percent (94%).

Take this as a sign that the spin 11's keyboard is compact and pretty comfortable.

TOUCHPAD:

The touchpad of the Acer Chromebook spin 11 measures 4x2.25 inches, it is fast, responsive, and feels great.

However, sometimes it requires an amount of effort to click on the touchpad.

Overall, the touchpad is good but not great just because of its inability for a subconscious tap.

PORTS:

The left side of spin 11 includes a power ON/OFF button, battery charging indicator, a USB Type-C port.

A USB 3.0 port, a microSD card reader, and at last our cute little microphone/headphone jack.

On the right side, you will get a Kensington lock for security-conscious users.

A USB Type-C port for data transfer, and a USB 3.0 port.

Despite the fact, the Chromebook spin 11 has (2) USB 3.0 ports, it still feels very slim.

Internal Review | Display, Benchmarks, Audio, Gaming, And More

DISPLAY:

We tested the 11.6 inches HD screen's display of the Acer Chromebook spin 11 in various ways.

First was the color gamut, the screen of spin 11 covers an appreciable 81 percent (81%) of color gamut despite the fact that an average Chromebook scores 76 percent (76%).

Our next test was the brightness, the laptop scored 216 nits of brightness.

On the bright side, it does beat the Lenovo flex 6 11's score of 207 nits, however, other laptops like Asus and Lenovo offer more.

On painting in tablet mode, the spin 11's 10-point capacitive touch screen was quite responsive.

We also played some games like subway surfers, and temple run to test the touch screen.

The responsive touch screen performed more than expected.

Our last test was on the trailer of the famous trending (2020) season known as DARK.

On Acer Chromebook Spin 11, the color quality was good but the laptop's screen suffered in showing dark scenes like the time one.

On the bright side, the colors of the explosion scenes were bright and punchy.

PERFORMANCE:

The Acer Chromebook spin 11 cloaks a 1.1 GHz Intel Celeron N3350 processor.

4GB of DDR4 RAM, and 32GB eMMC internal storage.

The specs are not mind-blowing but to our surprise, Acer is playing a bigger game here.

To test its strength we ran a zoom online meeting, ran 2 youtube HD videos, and to add this all up we ran online games.

It was seriously a jaw-dropping moment because the Acer Chromebook Spin 11 managed to run all those things without any noticeable lag or stutter.

Really impressed.

BENCHMARKS:

We ran the very famous Geekbench 3 test.

The Acer Chromebook spin 11 registered a score of 1,483, which is lower than Asus Vivobook W202NA which registered a score of 2,774 on the same processor as spin 11.

We then ran the web performance test, the spin 11 managed to score 54, again lower than the Asus Vivobook's 76.89.

Despite the low benchmark numbers, the Acer Chromebook Spin 11's overall performance is impressive.

AUDIO:

Let's divide the audio quality into two parts. the bass quality and overall loudness quality.

We played bass boosted sounds for bass quality, the experience was awesome spin 11 managed to deliver great bass quality with details.

We played several high-quality loud songs and this is where spin 11 suffered.

The overall loudness of Spin 11 is mediocre.

Despite the lack of loudness, the overall audio quality is decent for meetings, movies, and bass sounds.

GAMING:

The Chromebook spin 11 did play some soft games like subway surfers, temple run, and sonic forces: speed battle.

But it failed to boot competitive games like PUBG and Asphalt 8

Subway surfers and temple run can be also be played via the keyboard of spin 11 which is a plus point for scoring high numbers in the game.

BATTERY LIFE:

Acer promised 9 hours of battery life with typical use.

In our test (continuous web searching, brightness full, gaming, and google drive all at the same time), the Acer Chromebook spin 11 lasted 8 hours and 50 mins (08:50).

That's good news because it surpassed the competitor's record of 8 hours and 43 mins (08:43).

But the Lenovo Chromebook c330 offers more.

The Chromebook spin 11 was charged ( from 0 to 100 ) in 2 hours and 30 mins which is appreciable.

THERMAL HEATING:

If you are an entrepreneur then you probably have to use your laptop all day, so don't worry about excessive heating of spin 11.

We tested its thermal strength by taking a full HD meeting online while the laptop was on charging.

The spin 11 reached a temperature of just 82 degrees on the trackpad,  92 degrees on the underside, and surprisingly 84 degrees between the G and H keys.

The laptop impressed us on the thermal test.

WEBCAM:

The 720p webcam of the spin 11 performed more than expected.

The picture quality in bright light was awesome.

Like other laptops, it also lacks low light enhancement.

The videos taken from the camera are acceptable.

OS:

Of course, it runs on Chrome OS which means it is also compatible with google play store.

One thing that we love about chrome OS is that its always on the radar.

Google always gives security and performance updates to determine your experience.

BOTTOM LINE:

Acer Chromebook Spin 11 is a nice partner for entrepreneurs and small businesses because it packs pretty decent performance.

The OS is user-oriented without any bug and the design looks amazing.

If you are okay with the tablet mode, trackpad, and benchmark scores, you should definitely go with Spin 11.

We recommend this Chromebook to small businesses, entrepreneurs, and light users.
