HP Pavilion 15-eg0021nr Review 2021 | Best Work Laptop?

 HP Pavilion 15 i7 11th Gen Review

After the success of the previous HP 15-cs3019r, the company has decided to use the latest 11th Gen chips on their new laptop for better performance.

HP Pavilion 15-eg0021nr was released in late 2020, now it has become one of the best work laptops in the market.

Is it an option worth considering in 2021? Find out in our detailed review.

Why Trust Us:

All of our reviews are based on real-time testing and market research. We only recommend products that are worth buying for the prices.

Hours Tested = 19 hours | Market Researched = 7 hours

Let's start with the specs, Hp Pavilion 15 comes with 15.6 inches FHD micro-edge screen, Intel Core i7 11th Gen Processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD.

External Review

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY:

The build quality of HP 15 is sturdy and lightweight like the Hp dy1036nr, the polycarbonate body looks even more classy with the natural silver finish.

The laptop's design is beautiful and compact, it is just 0.70 inches thick and weighs around 4lbs (1.8 kg), which means you can easily carry it around without much effort.

The front lid has an HP logo that compliments the overall design, and there aren't any annoying stickers boasting Intel 11th Gen chip.

There is little to no screen flex, the hinges are silent and well placed, and the lid can be opened with a single hand.

KEYBOARD:

This notebook features a large-sized keyboard with Numpad, the keys are square and provide excellent feedback.

The keyboard is a bit elevated which helps in a better typing experience. The placement of the keyboard is perfect, neither too high nor too low.

The power button can be found in the top left corner of the keyboard.

TOUCHPAD:

Hp 15 features a regular-sized touchpad that supports windows precision, which means all the special gestures like zoom in/out, three-finger swipe, etc are enabled.

The silver finish on the touchpad and keyboard makes this laptop more beautiful, also the soft brushy patterns on the palm rest feel awesome.

PORTS:

The port selection on this laptop is decent, but we do wish for a second USB Type-C port.

On the left side, we have got an HDMI 2.0 port, USB Type-A port, a USB Type-C port, a MicroSD card reader, and at last a 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack.

On the right side, there is our charging port and a second USB (2.0) Type-A port.

The USB Type-C port can come in handy when connecting secondary displays or charging this laptop (it can charge this laptop as well)

WEBCAM:

The webcam of this laptop captures the same 720p photos and videos but it has a wide 80-degree field of view which is great for video chats.

The microphone is decent, it does record a clear and crisp voice.

The overall build of Hp 15-eg0021nr is decent, we really love the smooth natural silver finish on the body.

Internal Review

DISPLAY:

The notebook features a 15.6 inches FHD display with thinner bezels than the previous 10th Gen variant.

We measured the brightness to be about 250nits max, which is great for office users as this laptop won't suffer in brightly lit environments.

However, you will see the screen suffering on outdoor (under the sun) use.

The screen shows vibrant and punchy colors, the 178 degree wide viewing area is a cherry on top.

4k@60fps video playback is supported and the videos run fine without any stuttering, good news for Netflix lovers.

Secondary Displays:

You can make an awesome dual-screen setup by using the USB Type-C port, this feature can be really helpful for people working from home to be productive.

RAM AND SSD:

The laptop features 16GB of DDR4 (2 x 8) RAM and 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD.

The RAM cannot be upgraded, but we think 16GB is enough for multitasking and work use.

For the SSD, there is a second M.2 slot that supports up to 1TB of SSD, we would recommend you to apply Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB SSD on HP 15.

CPU AND GPU:

HP 15 features the latest Intel Core i7 11th Gen processor with Intel's Iris Xe Integrated Graphics.

The CPU is extremely powerful and power-efficient, it will easily handle all of your work programs easily, you won't find your laptop lagging under heavy load.

The Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics helps more in better graphical experience beating AMD vega ones. This laptop is ideal for photo/video editing and graphic designing.

PERFORMANCE:

Web Performance:

To test its web surfing strength we ran many heavy websites and a Youtube FHD live stream.

We were able to switch between all of the tabs without stopping or reloading (websites reload under heavy load) while the Youtube stream was running smoothly without any frame drops.

Thanks to the powerful CPU of HP 15.

Gaming Performance:

Although this laptop is not gaming based, we were able to run CPU consuming games on 1080p settings smoothly thanks to the Iris Xe Graphics.

GTA V

GTA V ran on 1080p settings smoothly, and to our surprise, the laptop was able to give 60+ fps easily without much heating.

CS: GO

According to Intel, the GPU has beaten Nvidia's MX350 graphics card on the performance of this game.

CS: GO ran smoothly giving 100+ fps easily, surprised aren't you?

VALORANT:

We were able to play valorant on 130+ fps smoothly, there weren't any frame drops even after several hours of playing.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS:

League of legends ran on medium settings giving smooth 150+FPS while on max settings the fps dropped to 70 fps.

There were no dropped frames on some less CPU demanding games like Minecraft, sims, etc which makes the HP 15-eg0021r great for casual gaming!

The overall gaming experience is above average. Below is the list of games this laptop can play smoothly.

THERMALS:

Under heavy loads of programming, photo/video editing, and gaming there wasn't any thermal throttling or visible lag.

The temperature was well below 76-degree celsius thanks to the cooling system of Pavilion 15.

And we didn't find the fan crying when stress was laid on both CPU and GPU.

BATTERY:

On continuous video playback (WIFI turned off and brightness level medium), the battery will last up to 8 hours and 25 mins (8hr:25min)

While on heavy multitasking the laptop will last 7 hours and 35 mins which is quite impressive when considering the performance.

The laptop can also be charged via USB Type C port, it will go from 0 to 100% in 1 hour and 10 mins (1hr:10min).

BOTTOM LINE:

The HP 15-eg0021nr is a powerful compact laptop best for working professionals, its design does earn a lot of compliments and the display is above average.

With a price well below its competitors, Hp Pavilion 15 has hit the ball out of the park in its overall CPU and GPU performance.

It is a true value for money laptop!
