Asus Vivobook 15 f512da e51 Review 2021, Is it an option for you?

Asus Vivobook 15 f512da e51 Review is it worth buying in 2021?

The Asus Vivobook series's laptops are known for their great performance in the budget category.

What's great about the Vivobook lineup is that they perform graphically much better than their competitors at the same price point,

Today we are going to review the Asus Vivobook 15 F512DA-EB51.

Is this laptop an option for you? Is it worth buying in 2021? Find out all of your answers below in our detailed Asus Vivobook 15 f512da review.

First, let's have a look at the specs the one that we are going to review has a 15.6 inch full HD screen with AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics.

AMD quad-core Ryzen 5-3500U processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.(Bestseller at Amazon at the time of review)

There's a Ryzen 7 | 512GB variant available too for people looking for more powerful performance.

Why Trust Us:
All of our reviews are based on honest testing and market research. We only recommend products that are worth buying for the prices.

External Review | Design, Weight, And More

DESIGN:

The laptop comes packed with a compact design perfectly made to fit in the user's hand.

The four side nano-edges (88% of incredible screen-to-body ratio) contribute even more in making the display awesome.

Also, the non-slip all-plastic body feels smooth in the hand

The weight of this laptop is 3.86 pounds or 1.75 kilograms that of course is a bit heavier than laptops at the same price point.

There are often compromises that are made to hit budget price points, on the Asus Vivobook 15, it is its weight and battery life.

We have found with past Asus laptops that sometimes these things can dig into softwood desks but this one doesn't feel like it's doing that.

We were running it across an IKEA desk and there were no visuals of any new scratches being added to the mix.

Hats off to Asus for improving their overall design.

KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD:

Itt features a backlit keyboard which is great, we don't usually see a backlit keyboard on low-priced laptops.

The keyboard isn't bad here the keys are a little smaller as compared to Asus Vivobook S15.

They did get a number pad in here for the Microsoft excel fans out there.

The trackpad is decent, its position is pretty accurate and a little on the spongy side but it works fine.

It's a standard regular sized click pad just like other midrange or low budget laptops.

You also have a built-in fingerprint sensor as well so you can get into the laptop more quickly.

PORTS:

Talking about ports, on the left-hand side we have two USB 2.0 ports

But if you are planning to plug-in external hard drives we would recommend you to attach them to the other side because these are slower ports than the right-hand side ones of the laptop.

Then you have power on/off and battery charging indicator lights.

On the right side, we've got more ports to look at,

One is a micro SD card slot so you can add some additional storage without taking apart the laptop, a headphone microphone jack is also here.

Then you've got a USB type-c port though this port only transfers data it does not allow power or video out.

You can connect external displays with an HDMI adapter.

At second to last you've got a USB 3.0 port and then you've got your power adapter for charging.

Internal Review

DISPLAY:

The laptop features a 15-inch screen with a 1080p IPS display.

We do wish the display was a little brighter than what we are seeing here but it's not terrible for the price point.

The quality of the display though is nice and sharp as you would expect out of an IPS screen.

The Vivobook 15's display works pretty decently and we did not see a lot of bleed on it.

INTERNAL HARD DRIVE AND RAM:

It has an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor with 8 gigabytes of RAM and a 256 gigabyte PCIe SSD.

You do have some upgrade options, just take the bottom panel off to swap out RAM and storage.

For RAM you have an additional slot that supports up to 32GB.

Now one thing to keep in mind with this configuration is that if you were to take that forward RAM socket and maybe put in an 8 gig module.

You are risking performance degradation because these AMD chips use dual-channel memory for the best graphics performance.

If you mismatch the pair you risk stability issues or you'll see the laptop running slower because it can't run that memory in dual channel mode

Our advice with this one is to not add any additional RAM.

Now on the storage side, you can swap out the PCIe drive inside for something bigger to get some really nice performance.

We would recommend you apply SK Hynix Gold P31 Gen 31TB PCIe SSD because it features the world's first 128 Layer NAND.

You also have room for a SATA drive as well.

Buy SAMSUNG 860 PRO SSD 1TB SATA III Here (recommended)

Just keep that in mind that if you intend on adding a second SATA Drive to the Asus Vivobook 15 you will need an additional cable to get it working.

WEB PERFORMANCE:

We ran a 1080p 60Fps video on Microsoft edge, there were no frame drops or lag.

We searched many sites like NASAgov and HBO, the loading time was a little bit late.

We ran the browser speedometer test and got a score of 76 on version 1.0.

This is good but not great because other AMD machines are doing better than Asus Vivobook 15.

GAMING TESTS:

let's have a look at gaming because this is an area where these Ryzen and chips really outshine their Intel competitors.

We ran GTA 5 with 1080p (high) settings, it ran on 80 to 90 frames per second.

This is an excellent performance.

Next, we ran Witcher 3 with 720p settings, to our surprise the laptop managed to run it on 60+ FPS easily.

We also ran the new version of Doom again with medium settings, the fps was about playable 40 frames per second.

Rocket League also did pretty well on Vivobook 15, we did get to 90 frames per second at low settings.

Fortnight ran on medium settings 1080p on the Asus Vivobook 15, we got about 50 to 60 frames per second.

Overall, that was an incredible gaming experience

BENCHMARK SCORE:

The benchmark score of Asus Vivobook 15 f512da on 3d Mark Cloud Gate benchmark was eleven thousand six twenty-nine (11,629)

Asus Vivobook 15 outperformed every competitor in this test, Lenovo IdeaPad 330s was the runner up.

We also ran the 3d mark stress test to see how well this machine performs under sustained load.

There we got a failing grade of seventy-three point two percent (73.2) which means you'll see some throttling on heavy load.

BATTERY LIFE:

The battery life of Asus Vivobook 15 is about 6 hours for light usage.

But if you're doing games or something more strenuous you'll see less battery life (4 and a half hour)

Unfortunately, this laptop is not known for its battery life.

LINUX COMPATIBILITY:

Our last review test on this machine was to check if it is compatible with Linux,

We booted it up and boom - everything was automatically detected just perfectly.

We got video networking, Wi-Fi Bluetooth, all of the things that you need to get a working functional computer.

CONCLUSION:

The Asus Vivobook 15 is a decent laptop packing some incredible features at this price point.

However, there are some places like battery life and weight where you should compromise on.

Keeping in mind its excellent gaming performance and less-edged screen we would surely recommend Asus Vivobook 15 to our readers.
