First, let's have a look at the specs, The Laptop features a 15.6 inches FHD micro-edge screen. it packs an Intel Core i5 10th Gen Quad-core processor with Intel UHD Graphics.

8GB of DDR4 RAM, and 256GB of PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD.

External Review

UNBOXING EXPERIENCE:

The laptop comes inside a classy HP cardboard box, inside there is our 45 Watt Ac power adaptor along with the cable, some user manuals, and at last, there is our friend wrapped in a thin plastic sheet.

The overall unboxing experience is pretty smooth, The laptop bootup process took seconds only.

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY:

The laptop is more on the thinner profile, it's just 0.70 inches thick. The polycarbonate body with a matte finish feels smooth and compact to carry around.

Hp has made sure to make the design of this laptop premium therefore the edges are smooth, hinges are silent, and the laptop can be opened with a single hand.

The build is sturdy yet lightweight, it weighs only 3.75 lbs (1.7kg) which makes this laptop an excellent choice for students and office workers.

The overall build quality is superb, except for the beautiful HP logo on the front and an Intel core i5 sticker there are no stickers or logos on the build.

In short, Hp really has hit the ball out of the park in making the design of this laptop as compared to the competitors. It leaves a lasting impression on anyone that sees it.

KEYBOARD:

The keyboard of this notebook is sturdy with a silver matte finish, it is excellent for longer typing periods.

The square keys are solid and give tactile feedback and there is little to none keyboard flex.

If you are a student or office worker who has to type a lot, then the keyboard of HP 15 is a way to go for you.

TOUCHPAD:

Hp notebook 15 features a large-sized touchpad that gives responsive feedback.

The touchpad supports precision which means you can use all the smart windows 10 gestures like pinch and zoom, recent apps, etc

The palm rest has a silver metal finish which contributes even more in making this laptop premium.

However, the distance between the keyboard and the touchpad is small, so you will find your palm accidentally touching the touchpad when typing, this won't bother most people so don't worry.

PORTS:

The port selection on the machine is pretty accurate, on the left side we have got a mini HDMI 1.4b port, A USB Type-C Gen 1 port, a 3.5mm headphone/ earphone jack, and a full-sized SD card reader.

On the right side, we have got 2 USB Type-A Gen 1 port for connecting external USB devices like mouse, keyboard, etc, at last, we have got the HP charging slot.

WEBCAM:

The notebook comes with a traditional 720p webcam paired with 2 microphones.

The microphones use noise cancellation software to record a clear crisp voice.

The combo of the webcam and mics will be very useful during video chats, online classes, and office meetings.

The overall external features of HP 15 are quite impressive, Hp has really nailed it!

Internal Review

DISPLAY:

The laptop comes with a 15.6 inches diagonal FHD screen with micro-edge technology which means there are thin bezels and a wider viewing area.

The IPS panel is LED-backlit with a matte coating which means there will be no reflections and glare, this will help you to use your laptop without developing eye fatigue (tired eyes, lack of focus).

The brightness of this laptop is average, it maxed out at 220 nits which means you can use this laptop in any normal environment like classrooms and offices easily.

However, the screen will suffer in outdoor use.

The screen shows bright pictures and videos with punchy colors, it is very good for watching videos on Youtube and movies on Netflix.

We measured the color gamut and it turned out to be only 45% (NTSC) which is not good.

The mini HDMI 1.4b port will be really helpful for connecting external displays, we connected a QHD monitor to this laptop to create a kickass dual-screen setup.

The laptop has no issue creating dual displays, this feature is really useful for people working from home to boost their productivity.

Overall it is an impressive display, the thinner bezels make it more premium.

RAM AND SSD:

Hp notebook 15 comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and 256GB of PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD.

For RAM no upgrade option is available but it won't annoy most of the users as 8GB is enough, however, there is a second M.2 SSD slot to upgrade your system's storage.

We would recommend you to apply Sabrent 1TB Rocket 4.0 M.2 SSD to boost your laptop's performance.

It is really nice to have a second SSD slot at this price point. Upgrading the SSD is a piece of cake, just remove the back panel.

CPU AND GPU:

The laptop is powered by Intel Core i5 Icelake 10th gen CPU with a base frequency of 1.0 GHz and Max Turbo frequency of 3.6 GHz. Now we won't confuse you with these tech terms let us explain the efficiency of this CPU in easy words.

The latest Intel Icelake CPUs are designed to perform more tasks in less time than their predecessors without taking much battery life.

This means the performance of this laptop's CPU is 25% faster than the last year's one.

You won't have any problem doing all your task on this laptop the CPU will handle everything.

Taking about GPU, Hp 15 comes with Intel's integrated UHD graphics, it is a decent GPU suitable for light photo/video editing, extreme multimedia playback, and medium gaming.

The GPU also supports hardware acceleration from all necessary codex which means you will get excellent video playback without any lag.

Now let's check the capabilities of Its CPU and GPU

PERFORMANCE:

We played a 4k @ 60FPS Youtube video and ran 23 different heavy webpages to test the web surfing performance of HP notebook 15.

Fortunately, the laptop breezed through all the webpages and ran the video seamlessly without any lag.

Call Of Duty:

Call Of Duty warzone was tested on the lowest settings, it was a nice experience. The FPS maxed out at 45.

CS:GO:

CS: GO is another CPU consuming game, but that's where HP has a bigger hand. On low settings CS: GO ran on 70+FPS, on the medium it ran smoothly giving 60 FPS while on Max settings it ran on an average FPS of 50.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS:

League of Legends is another CPU consuming game, the laptop ran it smoothly on maxed-out settings giving 100+ FPS easily.

GTA V:

To our surprise, GTA V can also run smoothly on this laptop. On low settings, it will give you 50 to 55 FPS which is great for casual gamers.

FAR CRY 4:

Far Cry 4 ran on high settings easily there were no frame drops, but we would recommend you to play this game on medium settings to maximize your FPS and gaming experience.

It was really a nice experience gaming on this laptop, we were really surprised to see high-end games running smoothly.

If you are planning for medium gaming then this machine is a way to go for you.

As you can see the power-efficient CPU of this laptop has beaten the CPUs of many highly-priced laptops.

On 3D Mark Fire Strike Graphic test HP 15 scored 1749 beating the same priced Acer Aspire 5 and Asus Vivobook 15 easily.

On the heating test, HP is a clear winner, even when stress is laid on both CPU and GPU the temperature was not passing 73-degree Celcius that is quite impressive.

The fans are quiet they won't bother you.

BATTERY LIFE:

This machine comes with a 3-cell 41 WH battery which will last for a whole day because of the efficiency of the CPU.

By doing web surfing with WIFI turned on and brightness on 50% (Recommended test by our users) the battery will last up to 8.5 hours.

Continuous video playback with normal brightness setting will drag the laptop till 9.75 hours (9 hours and 45 mins).

If you are doing continuous gaming then the battery will last for 7 hours which is really nice because many gaming laptops provide the same battery life in a higher price range.

COMPETITORS:

There are only two direct competitors of this laptop, The Asus Vivobook 15 and the Acer Aspire 5.

Don't worry we have covered the intimate details of both of these laptops on our website.

Acer Aspire 5 is a clear winner in two aspects, first, it features a backlit keyboard which is great for people working at night, second, it provides room for additional RAM as well.

However, it's performance is not a match to Hp 15's.

Asus Vivobook 15 won in the graphics only, it suffers in battery life and weight.

While Hp notebook 15 is a clear winner in performance, battery life, and weight.

BOTTOM LINE:

Hp 15-dy1036nr is a great all-rounder laptop for people looking for value for money.
